FAIRPORT, NY, February 03, 2010 /Healthcare PR News/ -- The Center for Autism and Related Disorders, Inc. (CARD), a leading autism treatment organization known for effectively treating children with autism and related disabilities, will host a free workshop, Siblings of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders: Issues and Rewards on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at 6 N. Main St., Suite in New York 14450.

One in 110 children is diagnosed with autism in America, a devastation for the parents. What about their siblings of autistic children? What are their issues? CARD Research Manager, Melissa Olive, PhD, BCBA-D will speak with parents tomorrow night about the issues and reward of siblings of children with autism. According to Dr. Melissa Olive, "it can be tiring, frustrating and at times lonely for young siblings who are not in the autism spectrum." Dr. Melissa Olive will present the latest research on siblings of children with autism spectrum disorders. The workshop will be beneficial for siblings and parents who are overwhelmed by the difficulties of having an autistic child in the family.

Dr. Olive will also read an excerpt from "SIBLINGS: The Autism Spectrum Through Our Eyes," by Jane Johnson and Anne Van Rensselaer, a book essentially for children with a sibling on the autism spectrum and for parents who wish to understand how autism in the family may affect their child who is not in the spectrum. Q & A will follow. Siblings age 8 and up are encouraged to attend.
